The Young People: The It People

The Young People: The (It) People:

Would I be wrong to say, “this younger generation of citizens is on the threshold of a richer, freer, and more exciting life than any time in history?”

Technology feeds their expectations from a cornucopia of gadgets which for the most part are trivial in themselves; nevertheless they serve as a symbol of progress; seem to fill the void in empty lives; and feed the appetites of this adventurous youthful and middle aged society. As soon as one fad loses its freshness, another is provided, until one day the only thing distinctive about these technological gadgets will be their similarity.

The principal ingredients for this liberal carefree cocktail are — beer, micro-chips, and sporty cars; it’s an ongoing mobile party! The chasm which once separated parents from their children seems to have narrowed, and now the middle aged can play the same games as their children.

Men and woman who grew up in the post World War era could never understand those raised in the sixties and seventies, and on it went into the 80s and 90s; that is, until now! The young and the old are running wild, and all are headed in the same direction!

The structure appears never to vary as youthful ecstasy reaches it height with a montage of dancing legs, strumming guitars, spilled beer, and bright lights; all followed by one horrendous hangover’ and when one party ends, their already making ready for the next.  But one day the horse will throw its rider, and he won’t get up. Why do they do it? It’s a fist fight we cannot win; there will be no hero’s left to rescue the drowning lady.

Our society is not feeling growing pains, but the pangs of death from its intended immoralities. The now generation; the IT people have a deep rooted skepticism of God.  How long will He look the other way? How long will the Captain of the host of heaven hold back his armies?

Man’s desire is to reach upward, to merge his earth with the glories of heaven. But he knows nothing of the grim reaper that lurks in the shadows, waiting patiently for a doomed race; a people torn by their inner most conflicts having nowhere to go.

Are we to wait for one more spring? Have we become bewildered diehards, the creators of special effects, persuading ourselves that all is well? Let us not burn down our bridges in order to keep the fires of the furnace going.

For ours is a much different story, unlike the traditional ones, it has a much happier ending, one that finds the bride in the arms of her lover, and a marriage having been sealed with a kiss.

If we would turn the Bible loose on our society, it would tare into, and resolve every current issue, and any that could emanate from the hearts of men. It would influence human thought and conduct, and with God’s blessings and administration, ready to supply to every situation and give a solution satisfactory to all.

But political and religious magic will remain a mainstay because it has a certain appeal to this age. Merrymaking leaders in both the political and religious arena deliberately take their audiences on flights of fancy, making themselves appear sophisticated.

Entertainment centers, sport stadiums, and political town halls have become a home away from home. Promoters find these places profitable with little effort necessary: the people will always come to see the show!  New sights and sounds are projected on Theater and Television screens bringing new thoughts to people whose imaginative world is bound within by the boredom of their lives.

These places of entertainment were once dark, dirty, and smelly no better than a flea act in a circus. The respectable would shy away, murmuring as they walked off. Oh how America has changed!

We have become a people who have bared ourselves from God’s word by our own ignorance. The masses are moved by the strings of the puppeteer elite, as every marionette follows with jerky motions each tug of the string.

What’s the cost of attending your local church? For sure, it’s less than a penny! So I ask, “Can the church ever rise again from the ashes?” Does God have to be recreated to draw people back? Outside church doors lie’s resentment, mistrust, and a willingness to flout Christian’s who many times appear to come off as newly hired cashiers in a dry-goods store;  they to embarrassed to speak to their friends and neighbors about Jesus Christ.

Christianity looks to the world as a shadowy carbon copy of a semi-conscience falling dove. One that seems to be flying on tired wings, beating frantically, but in vain at the four winds. How do we break the umbilical cord of mistrust? Let’s get back to our original heritage; bring back high morals; look above the mountain tops and bring Jesus Christ back to center stage.
