The LORD Gives a Stern Warning to the Jews

Leviticus 19:28, “You (the Jews) shall not make any cuttings in you flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.”

Was this a request or a command from God? We may never fully understand the reason for this command, but we, as Christians, should take the warning seriously.

To mark is something graven, sculptured, as an image, and idol, stamped or signed. This is done on the flesh by tattooing, cutting, or branding.

The first time we read about a literal mark on a man’s skin is found in Genesis 4:15, “And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.”

In Revelation, we find two opposing forces marking their servants.
In Revelation 7:2, “Another angel — having the seal of the living God cried out, — hurt not the sea, or trees — till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.”

How is it done? We don’t know; it may be by the finger of the angel God sends, but whatever method is used to seal his servants, there will be no mistaking its meaning or who ordered it.

In Revelation 13:16, we read, “And he (the second beast) causes all, both small and great — to receive a “MARK” in their right hand, or in their foreheads.”

There are over 28,000 Tattoo shops in America and 50,000 Tattoo artists. A good Tattoo artist will charge up to $1000,00 per hour. Over 65% of the gay community have Tattoos. 900 million dollars is spent yearly on Tattoo equipment, and this is expected to grow at 10% annually.

For most of those who get Tattooed, God’s word has no bearing on their decision to do so. Tattoos can range from one letter, to a single number, one butterfly to full body Tattooing. There are prison and gang member Tattoos, some as a token of recognition, others for crimes committed, others for gang punishment.

Adolph Hitler had his Storm Troopers tattooed with a black ink SS tattoo located on the underside of their left arm near the armpit. Those sent to the death camps or slave factories received a series of numbers tattooed on their lower arm.

There are Tattoo artists who are involved in the world of the occult, those imbued with power and in union with the demonic spirit world.

When pictures are added to certain symbols, particularly satanic symbols, or those used for magic or alchemy or more complex masonic symbols, can the act of drawing these symbols invoke spiritual entities? Does the Bible answer the question?

Ephesians 6:12, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

God’s word is full of warnings concerning the rulers of the darkness. We must ask ourselves, will disobedience to the LORD’s command open the door to the powers of darkness?
