Pronouns and Definite Articles

Pronouns and Definite Articles: Christ’s: Christ: antichrists: or antichrist:

I read a tread that was discussing the antichrist. It was going well until some who were participating for whatever reason began to reject the most basic grammatical rules of the English language. They deny “He” as being singular and words like “the, or that” definite articles that point to one particular thing or person.

These people agree with the following two verses, but will reject others that have different characters, but run parallel in thought.

Matthew 24:5, Jesus is speaking, “For many (plural) shall come in my (singular) name, saying, (each individual’s saying) I (singular) am Christ;”

John 6:69, “We (the apostles) believe and are sure that you (2ed person) are that (that is a definite article, pointing to one) Christ, the (another definite article) Son of the living God.” The definite article “guarantees us that Jesus alone is the Christ, and He alone it the Son of God.

Parallel verses: But, many men will also come, and each person will claim to be the Christ.

1 John 2:18, “Even now are there many (plural) antichrists (plural):”

None of the apostles, neither Paul or any of the O.T. writers understood that for the next 1900 + years the Jews and Jerusalem would continue to be trodden under foot by the Gentiles. This will continue until Jesus returns. And in the past 1900 + Years, many (plural) individuals have, and continue to calm they (singular) are the expected Messiah.

So, the above two verses are correct. Hundreds of men over the centuries have claimed to be Christ; Jews, Muslims, and Gentile’s, all false teachers. These were the “many” John warned us of.

But now, Scripture also speaks of one man, who in the last of the last days will have all the power, and all the authority of the devil himself. He is referred to in certain verses in the singular as, “he”, and pointed out as an individual by the definite articles “the or that.” And if you ignore these rules, you disqualify yourself as a teacher.

To deny, reject, change, vail over, or intentionally change the meaning these pronouns give to the subject, is to deny the basic rules of English.

Revelation 22:18-19, “If any man shall add —- and if any man shall take away from the words of the book — God shall take away his (their) part out of the book of life.”

2 Thessalonians 2:3, “Let no man deceive you (Christians) by any means (or in any way); for that day (the day of Christ) shall not come, except (or until) there comes a falling away first, and that (“that”, is a definite article) man (singular) of sin be revealed, the (points to one) son of perdition.” Just as there is only one “Son of God.”

2 Thessalonians 2:7-8, “For the mystery of iniquity does already work: — And then shall that (that is the pointer to that one person) Wicked (the one being pointed to, will) be revealed.”

2 Thessalonians 2:3, “That (definite article points to one person, the) man of sin.” And “The (singular) Son of Perdition.”

Revelation 11:7, “The (the singular) Beast that ascends out of the bottomless—.”

So, to deny the basic rules of the English language is to be a false teacher. Why people do it, who knows! Most likely if they ever admitted they were wrong they may hurt their sensitive ego’s, or may have to retract what they have written or posted in books or on a private web-site.
