The Record

The Record

The history of the Bible can awaken the average mind and stimulate the sparsest interest, it proving the existence of many sacred and hidden principles, tethered to Godly origins. The curiosity and wonder of Biblical history not only pertains to a record of facts told in prose and poetry … song and prayer; it speaks of a time to come, a time spoken of as if it had already past, continually forewarning us of an impending disaster.

In the eyes of God, man’s history, his present and future appear to be confined to the written records of the great prophets. Historical declarations call attention to our curiosity the Genesis, this for the advancement of our knowledge. Then with our mind stimulated this knowledge is worked forward to a more considerable understanding of the Almighty.  These many chronicles and narratives give a realistic coloring to the representation presented for a wise man’s future reasoning, and judgments.

We may read of the past world colored in shadowy grays; man’s skepticism and brutality immersed in a caldron of evil; these being the arch-enemy of the world of Light. The riddle of the universe! It’s revealed to us as a haunting record of fallen man and nature; both forever indulged in the final battle between good and evil. History is represented as a known reality, a story past giving a hint of tomorrow.  The events, people and nations fall away into yesterday, yet like the ebbing tides, soon return anew as a somewhat familiar wave crashing against the shoreline.

There lays before us a path joining the realities of life and our eternal souls. It’s told in the historical record, clearly defined, yet ignored by many. The passionate tenacity of God and unfailing work of his Holy Spirit bring to us a compliment of precepts to a bitter-sweet life.

So let the poets and historians of Scripture marshal in the abstract and the facts, for it is the greatness of our Lord and Savior that prevails over all time. The entirety of our yesterdays, todays, and tomorrows can be summed up in the following verse, “God so loved the world, He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
