Miracles And Signs

Only through the Holy Spirit, will God give to His children, various gifts. These gifts may be given for the working of miracles, and/or other supernatural powers, this in order to entice, or draw unbelievers to the Lord. With the Holy Spirit, working in, and through believers, there will be no doubt as to the source of this supernatural gift.

The gift may come in the form of preaching, teaching, healing, speaking in a foreign language (referred to as tongues,) etc. This is the means by which God has chosen to spread the good-news, to unbelievers. Christian workers will use their gifts to entice, and draw men to the Lord. How different people respond, varies greatly. Their response and actions will cause a positive or negative reaction to the gift offered.

If a man has the gift of prophesy, he will be right 100% of the time, not 99%, but all the time. If a man has the gift of languages, (tongues) he will be able to convey the Gospel in a language other than his own. Even if those present have never heard Jesus or the Gospel, it will be understood by them in such a way, they will either receive, or reject that message.

The news of Christ will expose any and all the hidden thoughts of a person’s heart. These signs, wonders and miracles, are not to be used for the purpose of drawing large crowds, to expand a ministry, extract money, enhance a persons images, but to build the church to the saving of souls.

In a false ministry, a great deal of the donations come from those who can least afford it. Some give hoping from a payday from God. The church’s of Satan that siphoned money from a families’ food budget, their rent or mortgages, and from a household’s general fund. A great deal of money is wasted that would help support small, God fearing ministries that teach the word. Ministries that teach and preach the truth, help the sick, the poor, the homeless, and bring Christ’s work of salvation to the unsaved.

These hucksters herald a message of, “send us your money, and we will heal your sick, your lame, etc.” They also claim to have the power to entice God to give them a ten-fold return for any donations. They sent beads, prayer rugs, candles etc. Don’t you believe them, these are the minsters of Satan. These false prophets need to be put to the test of Scripture. They themselves are lost, but their false messages grow louder, under the bright lights of T.V. threats of eternal damnation, false promises, and description from their father the devil. Lying tongues, hypocrites, deceivers, wolves dressed in sheep’s clothing.

Hosea 4:6, God said, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee.”

Listen careful to the speakers, and to their message. Check thoroughly their doctrinal statements, and their teachings, this against God’s word. A Christian will not seek after signs or wonders, but only believes by faith.

What is the Gospel message?

It is not signs, a miracle, or a wonder. Paul said in,

1 Corinthians 15:1, “I declare unto you the Gospel.” In,

1 Corinthians 1:17, Christ sent Paul, “to preach the Gospel.” Question, what is the Gospel?

1 Corinthians 1:18, It is, “the preaching of the cross.”

Verse 23, It is, “Christ crucified.” 1 Corinthians 15:3, It is that,

“Christ died for our sins.”

Verse 4, that “He was buried , and that He rose again the third day.”

Verse 15, the Father, “raised up Christ.”

1 Corinthians 15:20, “Christ is the firstfruits of them that slept (died.)

Verse 21, “by man (Christ) came also the resurrection of the dead (believers.)”

Further in verse 24, we read, “He = (Jesus) shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when He shall have put down all rule, and all authority, and powers.”

Verse 25, and, “will put all enemies under his feet = (trampled, destroyed).” This is the Gospel message.

Jesus has been given all power, and all authority, and to those who are His, He gives the perfect gift, the gift of salvation. All other gifts are for the purpose of spreading the gospel. In other words the other gifts are vessels which help spread the gospel. We are to receive these gifts in all humility, and thanks. Jesus is to be honored, glorified, and edified, in the use of these gifts. none are for our self-exaltation.

The word sign, in the Greek is, semeion, it is something by which another thing is shown or represented, a token. It is any visible thing, any motion, appearance, or event, which indicates the existence or approach of something else. It could come as a wonder, a miracle, a prodigy, a remarkable transaction, event, or phenomenon. It could be a visible mark, or representation, as an outward sign of an inward and spiritual grace. It is used in the Bible in the following ways.

1. A sign is given, by which the divine power and majesty is made known; also a supernatural event or act, a token, wonder, or miracle, by which the power and presence of God is manifested, either directly or through the agency of those whom He sends.

A. As the work or labor of God.

Compare 1 Corinthians 14:22 with verse 25,

“Where tongues (languages) are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not:” — “And thus are the secrets (the hidden thoughts) of his = (the unbeliever) heart made manifest = (known.)”

The apostles began speaking in languages they had not been trained in, knew, or had ever known, this was the sign of God’s Spirit working in them.

B. A sign of God’s displeasure.

1. Compare, 1 Corinthians 14:21, with verse 25, “In the law it is written, With men of other tongues = (languages) and other lips = (dialect) will I = (God) speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.— And thus are the secrets = (hidden thoughts) of his = (the unbelievers) heart made manifests = (made known.)”

The sign was, the Holy Spirit speaking through the apostles. They lived in an evil and adulteress generation, a generation who continually sought after miraculous events or signs in the heavens, in or through people, etc.

2. Compare Matthew 12:39, with verse 40, Jesus said to the Pharisees, “An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: — For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

The resurrection of the Lord, after spending three days and three nights in the earth, was that sign, and that evil and adulterous generation believed not.

3. Matthew 16:4, Jesus again said to the Pharisees and the Sadducees, “A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign.”

C. Of persons sent from God, whose character and acts are a manifestation of the divine power.

1. Luke 11:30, Jesus said, “For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.” Note, Jonas is a variant of the name Jonah.

Jonah hated the Ninevites, they being a pagan nation of brutal people. The Ninevites in the time of Jonah worshipped a pregnant woman. This was not unusual, for many people and nations worship pregnant women. But, what was different was, she was pregnant with a fish. Their legend said that her son was born part man, and part fish. God in His infinite wisdom knew this people would listen to a man who had just been ejected from the mouth of a great fish.

So after the Lord had prepared this great fish, Jonah was swallowed by it and after three days was cast on to the shore. Cast on to the shores of a powerful, merciless enemy. Is it any wonder when they see this man Jonah who had come from the mouth of a great fish, let him walk through their great city, with a harsh Message from a God they never believed in.

As Jonah walked through the city he cried out, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” The king and the people heard Jonah’s message, they believed, and repented in honest humility, therefore God spared the city. This was a sign from God, to a pagan people. The effect of this sign on this wicked nation was salvation.

As God had used Jonah, the Father also used his Son. It was to draw all men to the Messiah.

2. Luke 2:34, “Simeon blessed them = (Mary and Joseph,) and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set = (destined) for the fall = (ruin) and rising = again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against.” The physical birth of our Lord Jesus was that sign.

Simeon may have been making a reference to,

Isaiah 11:10, “And in that day there shall be a root = (Jesus was branch from the root) of Jesse, = (was the father of David) which shall stand for an ensign = (sign) of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek.”

The meaning of Luke appears to be, that the rejection of Messiah by the Jewish rulers, proved that they sought the glory and honor which comes from the world, and not that sign which comes from God. The birth of the Messiah in the line of David, was that sign, to both the rulers, and the people. These religious leaders, those who were loud in their professions of sanctity and devotedness to God, rejected Jesus. Why, because Jesus kingdom was not of this world. Thus the reasoning of their hearts was revealed. They rejected God’s sign.

Also, there was the act of the pouring out of the signs of the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost, which threw a new light on the whole subject. This sign was received by both Jews, and Gentiles.

D. Of signs, wonders, miracles which the Father is said to do through any person including his Son Jesus.

1. Acts 2:22, Peter said, “Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God = (the Father) among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God = (the Father) did by him = (Jesus) in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know;”

Peter was reminding these unsaved men on this day of Pentecost, of the signs, wonders, and miracles which the Lord had done before His death.

2. Acts 2:43, “And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.”

The man Jesus who the people had crucified, were told that He had been appointed by the Father, to be the Judge of both the living and the dead. They had now come to a rude awakening, became full of remorse, and were now fearful of the coming judgments of God. The signs and wonders continually done by the apostles, was proof of the origin of their doctrine, and mission. These who heard the message became aware of their own violations of the faith, their broken promises, vows, allegiances, meanness and wickedness, all in the name of God.

3. Acts 4:29-30, Peter and John prayed, thanking God, “grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they = (God’s servants) may speak thy word, by stretching forth thine = (God’s) hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of the holy child Jesus.” With,

Verse 31, “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.” Thus,

Acts 5:12, “by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought = (done) among the people;” This verse is to be read with,

Verse 15. Unbelievers began to believe, because of the miracles = (signs) and wonders God was working through the apostles. The people, “brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow = (fall on) some of them.”

Verse 16 tells us that not only the sick, but those with “unclean spirits” were healed. These unsaved Gentile people, received signs, = (the exorcism of evil spirits, and healing the incurably sick) and they became believers.

Acts 14:3, “Long time therefore abode they = (Paul and Barnabas) speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.”

The apostles bold speech sprang from the conscientiousness of the truth which they preached. They spoke of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the doctrine of God’s = (the Father’s) grace, and mercy, to mankind. No person can work a sign or wonder of themselves, but this gift is granted only by a special dispensation of God, through the Holy Spirit. This power does not reside in anyone continually, but is communicated, now and then, when a miracle is necessary for the confirmation of the truth preached, this usually to non-believers.

Acts 15:12, “Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.”

The newly converted Pharisees, said, It was necessary to circumcise new Gentile believers, and that these new converts were to keep the law of Moses. Those in the crowd turned to the apostles to hear what they had to say. Peter’s comments could not be disputed. He said,

1. Circumcision is a sign of the purification of the heart, and no longer of the flesh.

2. That purification can only be brought into effect by the Holy Ghost. When a person comes to Christ, this life changing event becomes a sign to those who see the change in him. No drugs, drunkenness, immoral conduct, materialistic life style, covetous, etc.

3. Because they were now circumcised in their heart by the power of the Holy Ghost, it was no longer necessary for the outward sign of circumcision.

E. The showing of future events.

1. Matthew 16:3, Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees and Sadducees, saying, “O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?”

Jesus spoke to these spiritual leaders, calling them hypocrites, for they were able, by simple observation to determine the weather, by looking at the sky. Jesus said, because you are a wicked and adulterous generation, you seek after a sign. The Jewish people like many today, are supposed to be engaged to the Lord, His future bride.

But like many today, they had become disloyal, forsaking their first love, and uniting themselves to false doctrines and sin. Why, because like the Jew, Christian’s today are seeking after signs, greater wonders and miracles. We need more healing, more prosperity, more emotion, more Babbling, more this, more that, more, more. What happened to belief by faith alone? Christian’s be still, and hear the voice of God.

F. Miraculous events = (signs) and deeds which point to the second coming of the Messiah in His kingdom. Future events prophesied by God.

1. Compare, Matthew 24:3 with, Matthew 24:30, “And as he = (Jesus) sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?”

Verse 30, Jesus said, “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then all the tribes = (races) of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”

Acts 1:10-11, some of the apostles were on the Mt. of Olives, moments before the Lord ascended into heaven. As Jesus went up into the air, two men, in white clothing were standing by the apostles and said,

“Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? “This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”

This same type of event happened to Elijah the prophet. 2 Kings 2:10, Elijah is speaking to Elisha, who had just asked for a double portion of his spirit. This was not a request for the working of miracles, exceeding the magnitude and number of his master’s. The phrase, “a double portion,” was applied to the first-born, and therefore Elisha’s request was, simply, to be heir to the prophetic office and gifts of Elisha, his master.

Elisha said, “Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but is not, it shall not be so.”

I believe the apostles who witnessed the ascension of Jesus, were to become the heirs to the prophetic office and gifts of their Master. But the sign will be, Jesus return to earth in like manner, to which He ascended.

1 Thessalonians 4:16, “For the Lord = (Jesus) himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:”

Even as the Lord ascended, He will descend. Because Jesus is represented as a victorious King, He in giving the word of command = (a shout) to the hosts of heaven, who follow Him, this His final onslaught and triumph over sin, death, and Satan.

“The voice of the archangel,” This is distinct from the “signal shout” The arch-angel, as the herald of Christ, shall repeat the order, Arise, ye dead, and come into my glory.

“The trump of God” The trumpet blast usually accompanies God’s manifestation glory.

Exodus 19:16, “the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud;”

Verse 17, “And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God;”

Psalms 47:5, “God is gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.”

The “shout,” the “voice of the archangel,” and “the trump of God,” are the last three accompaniments of Christ’s appearing. As the trumpet was used to convene God’s people to their solemn convocations,

Numbers 10:2, “Make thee two trumpets—–that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps.”

Numbers 31:6, “Moses sent them to war, — with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.”

God’s saints will be gathered together on the last day of the grace period, preparatory to their glorification with Christ.

Psalms 50:1 to 5, “The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, — God hath shined. Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, — He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”

2 Thessalonians  1:7 and 10, “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe” The sign is Jesus descending from heaven.

Revelation 1:7, “Behold, he = (Jesus) cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him.”

2. Mark 13:4, and Luke 21:7 with Luke 21:11-24. The apostles were on the Mount of Olives, looking down at the temple in Jerusalem, praising it’s size, and beauty.

Jesus said, “Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” The apostles then asked Jesus, “Master, but when shall these things be?” The apostles then asked, “what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?” The apostles were not asking for a sign, one that concerned their faith, but of a future event which the Lord had just spoken of. What events shall take place, just prior to the destruction of the great temple?

This conversation between Jesus and the apostles took place around 31 A.D. The destruction of the temple took place in 70 A.D. The historian Josephus gave in detail the events which took place prior to, and during the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. It is prophesied that the massive temple, and all its’ buildings would be taken down to their very foundation. And it was so, to the very last detail of Jesus prediction.

Jesus said, Luke 21:11, “Great earthquakes shall be in divers = (various) places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.”

In the seven year war with the Romans, there were over 1,300,000 Jews who died.

Verse 24, “And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: (they became slaves to their conquerors) and Jerusalem shall be trodden = (trampled) down of the Gentiles = (Gentiles, are all people, from all nations, who are not Christians) until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.”

From that day to this very day, the Jewish people have been conquered, persecuted, imprisoned, and killed, by just about every major nation in the world; the Russians, Germans, English, Spanish, French, the Arabs, Italians, etc. We read in history that Hitler tried to execute his plan for the total annihilation of the Jewish race. Over six million died.

The Jewish people are now fighting for their very existence. They are now on the brink of war with the Islamic nations. These were signs which the Lord Jesus told the apostles to look for, and that Christians, are to watch for. For the coming of the Lord is at hand, to take away His saints, both those who have died believing in Him, and those who are still alive. Again, these signs are not for converting non-believers, but are signs for the coming end of the age of grace.

4. Acts 2:17, is quoted from the book of Joel, “And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God.”

The last days, mean the time of Messiah. Isaiah 2:2, make reference to this, “And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains.”

The time of the Messiah, was the closing of all previously necessary arrangements, = (temple sacrifices) and constituting the final distribution of God’s kingdom on earth.

Acts 2:19, “And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke:”

This verses immediate reference, were to precede the destruction of Jerusalem, though its ultimate reference is to Christ’s final coming. The immediate references which preceded the destruction of Jerusalem were;

1. Matthew 24:4-5, “Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name saying, I am Christ.”

Matthew 24:6, “Ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars:”

Matthew 24:7, “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers = (various) places.”

“Nation shall rise against nation” This previously indicated sign, points to the slaughter of the Jews, by those people of other races, who dwelt = (the Romans) and now dwell, = (the Arabs and Palestinians) in the same cities, where their is contention about the rights and ownership of the city.

“Kingdom against kingdom,” is a reference to a people and territory under a kingly rule. This sign points to any subordinate prince, a petty king, or any sovereign, waging open war against each other.

The third sign, is, “famines.” Many people from Africa, India, China, Russia, etc. are in a famine condition. Very few countries can provide enough food for their people. Even if they could, the war machine of that country, takes from its’ people, to feed its’ military.

The fourth sign will be, “pestilences.” These are plagues, plagues which usually follow famines. When a person is deprived of food, and their body begins to weaken, they are open to all kinds of diseases. Since 1960 their are 15000 known new diseases. The poor are usually drawn together, many living is small, overcrowded, and unmaintained areas. In this closeness, all forms of diseases are transmitted from person to person, by air, contaminated food, human waste, rats, fleas, unrestricted sex, etc.

The fifth sign, “earthquakes.” In the last 100 years earthquakes have increased in numbers and size.

Luke 21:11, “fearful sights.”  This Old Testament prophesy now repeated in the New Testament, was for the Jewish people.

5. Deuteronomy 13:1-2-3, “If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

G. Signs, wonders, miracles, done by Jesus, and his apostles in proof and furtherance of their mission.

1. Mark 8:11-12, “And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him. And he = (Jesus) deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? Verily I say unto you, there shall no sign be given unto this generation.”

2. Mark 16:17 with 20, Jesus said, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils = (demons,) they shall speak with new tongues: (languages which they had never learned)—Verse 20, And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. A-men’.”

3. Luke 11:16 with verse 29, “And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven, — verse 29, and when the people were gathered think together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jo’-nas the prophet.”

4. Luke 23:8, “And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.”

H. Signs done by Jesus, In the Gospel of John, in the proof of His mission.

A. John 2:11-18-23, “This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him. —verse 18, Then answered the Jews and said unto him, what sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? —verse 23, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.”

1. John 3:2, Nicodemus, a man of the Pharisees, “came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, = (teacher) we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.”

2. John 4: 46-47-48. A royal official, here called a nobleman, sought after Jesus to heal his son. When he heard that Jesus was near by, he went out to meet him. He asked Jesus to heal his son, for the son was at the point of death. Jesus said, “Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.” Jesus healed the child, and the man believed, and also his whole household believed.

The first miracle of Jesus, was done in Capernaum. The Bible speaks in detail of 33 miracles, although many others had been done by the Lord. These signs, or miracles were done for the unbelievers, and those who doubted, or were beginning to lose faith.

Let us look at some of the results of these miracles, and signs of the Lord Jesus, and the effect it had on those who did not believe, before they took place.

The first miracle, water to wine, John 2:11, “This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested = (revealed) forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.”

The second miracle: Jesus cures the nobleman’s son from near death. John 4:53, “So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.”

The third miracle: Jesus causes a miraculous catch of fish. Luke 5:11, After the catch, it is said of the apostles, “they forsook = (left behind) all, and followed him = (Jesus.)”

The forth miracle: Jesus cures a demon possessed man, in a Jewish synagogue, on a Sabbath day. Mark 1:28, after Jesus cures the man, “immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.” Those who witnessed this miracle were unbelievers.

The fifth miracle:

Mark 1:31-32-33-34. Jesus heals Peter’s wife’s mother, the results being, many people heard. Those with disease’s, and who were possessed with devils = (demon’s) gathered at the house, and He = (Jesus) healed many.

Jesus heals a leper.

Mark 1; after Jesus heals this man, the man goes out and spreads the news of his healing. Verse 45, so many now came to Him that He could no longer enter into the city because of the great crowds, so He now went into the desert places, and people came to him from every quarter.

Jesus cures a demoniac in place called Gagara: There was a man possessed by a legion of demons. He ran around naked, cutting himself, living like an animal in caves. After Jesus heals him, the owners of the swine that had been destroyed by the demon’s entering them, came to tell Jesus to leave, for they had lost a great deal of money. When they arrived, they found the man that the Lord cured, Mark 5:15, “clothed, and in his right mind,”

Verse, 18, the healed man asked Jesus, if he could stay with him. Jesus tells him to go to his home. The man departs, and proclaims the good news in his city. The men of the city marveled, and when Jesus passed by the people of the city gathered unto him.

As Christians, we are to believe by faith, and not by the working of signs, and wonders. Jesus speaks many times of an evil and wicked generation looking for signs, or wonders.

John 6:2-14-26-30, John 7:31, John 9:16, John 10:41, John 11:47, John 12:18-37, John 20:30, Acts 4:16-22, Acts 8:6,        1 Corinthians 1:22, John 4:48, Acts 6:8, Acts 7:36, Acts 8:13, Romans 15:19, 2 Corinthians 12:12, Hebrews 2:4, Exodus 4:8 with verses 17-28-30

I. Signs, wonders, done by false prophets claiming to act by divine authority.

Revelation 13:13-14; 16:14; 19:20, Matthew 24:24, Mark 13:22, 2 Thessalonians 2:9.

3. In the New Testament, signs by which any thing is designated, distinguished, known.

Matthew 26:48, Romans 4:11, O.T. Genesis 9:12-13, Genesis 17:11.

Signs by which the character and truth of any person of thing is known, a token, proof.

Luke 2:12; 2 Corinthians 12:12; 2 Thessalonians 3:17; 1 Samuel 14:10; 2 Kings 19:29; 2 Kings 20:8,
