Purgatory Isn’t Necessary

Purgatory Is Not Necessary:

I believe all, Catholics, Protestants and Independents alike can agree that we are not to add or subtract from the Gospel message.  So what is the Gospel?

The word gospel is compounded of two words, “God,” and “good,” this corresponding to the Greek meaning “Joyful message,” or, the “Good news.”

The Gospel is the reveling of the grace of the Father to a fallen race. That grace comes through the Father’s beloved Son Jesus Christ. The gospel reveals that the Son of God came in the flesh.

Matthew 1:23, “A virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel, which is interpreted, God with us.” “Unto us (mankind) a child is born (Jesus,) unto us a Son is given (given by the Father in heaven)”

The gospel speaks of His death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and return of the Lord!

Jesus Last words on the cross were, John 19:30, “It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”

So what is it that was finished? It was His redeeming work! He had been made a sin offering; He was the Lamb of God; His blood alone covers our sins: He suffered the penalty that was meant for us, this satisfying wholly the Father’s justice.

Let me quote 4 verses that pretty much tell us what we must do to be saved. We are not to add or subtract from these words.

Acts 10:43, “Whosoever believeth in Him (Jesus) shall receive remission of sins.”

Matthew 10:32, “Whosoever therefore shall confess me (Jesus) before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.”

1 John 2:23, “Whosoever denies the Son (Jesus,) the same hath not the Father: (but whosoever) “Acknowledges the Son hath the Father also.”

1 Corinthians 15:3-4, “For I (Paul) delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures (in other words He fulfilled all Scripture.)” That He was buried; and rose on the third day according to the scriptures.” Paul tell us he received this revelation directly for the Lord Himself!

That in a nut-shell is the gospel message that saves!

I read nothing in these verses that tells me that I have to do anything; or go any place in order to be saved. Yes we are told to go out and spread the gospel message to a lost world, and if we do this, you will be showing you’re Love for Jesus.

What we are not to do is, even to then smallest degree is attempt to add one single thing in order to complete our salvation. If anyone does, they can than say they helped in saving them self, and in this, they have taken on to them self the glory that belongs to Jesus Christ alone.

So, if I were to go door to door and tell people to come to our meetings, or to join any specific church, will this help save me?  If I refuse to salute the flag; vote; join the military; pray to saints; tithe; read the book of Mormon; the Catechism; or the Jehovah Witness’ Watchtower or any other book, will any of this help save me? No! “By faith alone are we saved!”

To believe that any form of work will add anything or subtract from anyone’s salvation, regardless how small that work; that will put a person back under law; and by that law than will they be judged. And we all know that no man can, or has ever been able to keep the law except the Lord Jesus.

So I see no need for a place like Purgatory; or the annihilation of the body; or anything else needed to wash, cleanse, or purify a person in order to be saved.
