Faded Memories:

Question; why has the name of Jesus been put in upper case in Matthew 21, and 25? “And (Joseph) knew her (Mary) not till she had brought forth her first-born son: and he called his name JESUS.”

Jesus is a transliteration of the Hebrew, Joshua, or Jehoshua, meaning Deliverer, or Jehovah shall save.

The Savior came into the world by the power of the Holy Spirit which prepared for Him a body of flesh.

Hebrews 10:5, “But a body (through Mary) have you prepared for me.”

1 Timothy 3:16, K.J.B. “God was manifest in the flesh.” God takes on the substance of a mortal.

Matthew 1:21, “Thou shall call his name JESUS.”

The ending of the Hebrew name Joshua has been changed, for the sake of conforming it to the Greek. Christ is our Joshua or Jehoshua; He is the Captain of our salvation, and the High Priest of our faith, and, in both of the two offices, He is our Savior.

Joshua followed as leader of the Jews after Moses death; leading them into the Promised Land. Christian’s have their Jehoshus! JESUS does for us what the law can-not do, because there is no strength in it. It is He who will lead us into heaven, that which is our Promised Land.

We find that Joshua the man, had been called Hosea, or Oshea in Numbers 13:16, but Moses prefixed Oshua with “Jeh,” the first syllable of the name “Oshea,” making it Jeh-oshua. He is God “Jeh,” and He is man, “Oshea.” Even his name supports this teaching.

We read in Numbers 13:16, “These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea (meaning Joshua) the son of nun.”

Moses did this to suggest that coming Messiah was to bear that name; that the child promised as Isaiah indicated would be Jehovah. Being Jehovah, He is able to save to the uttermost, neither is there salvation in any other. Isaiah 9:6, His name shall be called the Mighty God.”

Luke 1:59, “It came to pass that on the eight day thy came to circumcise the child (Jesus.)”

The custom for the Jews was to circumcise their male children, and to name them on that occasion.

On the day of circumcision is when the name of Jehovah, the Son of God was changed to JESUS, Hebrew Jehoshea. He broke down the middle wall of partition; “He shall save;” He being emphatic, meaning Jehovah personally, and by personal acts he has saved, to the Jew first, than to every nation of the Gentiles.

Also upon Jesus circumcision, he sealed the land covenant.
In Genesis 17, God changed Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, on the day Abram circumcised himself.

So, this is the reason we find in,

Matthew 1:21-25, JESUS in upper case, “It is God with us,” Matthew 1:23. This is God’s Holy name!
