The Book of Genesis. The Book of Genesis. Gen.1, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void: and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. And God said, let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters, from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven." The Jews call this Book "Bereshith", it is the first word in Hebrew, which signifies, "In the beginning." The Syriac and Arabic versions have called it the Book of Creation. Genesis is a name borrowed from the Greek, it signifies original generation. This Hebrew word has been universally adopted. The book of Genesis is the oldest, most important, and exact record in history, and gives its reader information which cannot be gained from any other source. It contains about 2369 years of history. Genesis, gives to us a detailed account of the order of creation. The creation of man, his fall from grace, sin, and the destruction of all living things by water. Except for eight persons, and the creatures that were brought aboard the Ark, all other life forms were extinguished. From destruction to repopulation. We are given a look into the lives, actions, and genealogies of the great patriarches up to the death of Joseph. Genesis is the fountain of every historical document, and the basis upon which both human and spiritual history are revealed. It gives insight to the Kingdom of God, both here on earth and in Heaven itself. The principles and facts which this book exhibits and narrates, are also referred to in many other passages of Scripture. Genesis is a interesting read. If a Christian can peal back the layers of this book, take in, and digest its contents, it will open up, involve itself in, support, and cast a long shadows upon every other book in the Bible. The characters, events, promises and works foreshadow the Lord Jesus Christ and His every work.
